Sun Goddess

Hand-built ceramic · one of a kind

In German, the sun is still “she”: die Sonne. That is no accident of grammar. Across old Europe and far beyond, the sun was a goddess: Sól driving her horses across the Norse sky; Saulė of the Baltic lands, dancing on the hills at midsummer; Amaterasu in Japan, whose retreat into a cave darkened the world; the great Sun Goddess of Arinna, protector of the Hittite empire.

Her story is always the story of return. The light goes away, into the cave, below the horizon, into winter, and the world holds its breath until she comes back. The female sun is not a distant fire but a daily act of giving: warmth on skin, grain in the field, the turning of the year. The Sun Goddess honours the oldest of all certainties: that the light returns.

Fire gives her form as it gives her meaning. The Sun Goddess sculpture is hand-built from clay and born in the kiln, a ceramic one of a kind.

Bring her home

Every goddess exists exactly once. When she finds her home, she is gone. If she speaks to you, write to us. There is no obligation in asking.
