Snake Goddess

Hand-built ceramic · one of a kind

She has no name, only a presence. In 1903, archaeologists opened stone vaults beneath the palace of Knossos on Crete and lifted her into the light: a woman in a flounced skirt, arms raised, a living snake in each hand. She had waited there for three and a half thousand years.

Minoan Crete left no myths we can read, so the Snake Goddess keeps her secrets. But her language is clear enough: the snake sheds its skin and lives on. Renewal, earth-wisdom, protection of the house. In the frescoes of Crete, women stand at the centre of ritual. She is the oldest goddess image of Europe that still meets us eye to eye.

Earth and fire made the original: faience, fired in Bronze Age kilns. The Snake Goddess sculpture is born the same way: hand-built clay, one of a kind.

Bring her home

Every goddess exists exactly once. When she finds her home, she is gone. If she speaks to you, write to us. There is no obligation in asking.
