Danu
Hand-built ceramic · one of a kind
Danu is the oldest of the Celtic goddesses, and the most hidden. No myth describes her face; no story about her survives whole. She is known through her children: the Tuatha Dé Danann, “the people of the goddess Danu”, the shining tribe of Irish legend who came across the sea in mist. Craft, poetry, magic: everything they knew flowed from her.
Her name is water. Scholars trace it to an ancient root meaning “river”. The same root lives on in the Danube. The great stream that crosses Austria still carries her name today. Danu is the current beneath all things: the giving that comes before every gift. A mother goddess not as a figure, but as a source.
Clay is earth and river water: Danu’s own element. From it the Danu sculpture is built up by hand, painted and fired in the atelier: a ceramic one of a kind, as singular as the source herself.
Bring her home
Every goddess exists exactly once. When she finds her home, she is gone. If she speaks to you, write to us. There is no obligation in asking.
